These are perfect because they cook during the day and when you come home you just throw some butter and milk in and mash, Viola! Delectable homemade mashed potatoes are done in 5 minutes. There isn’t anything better when you have 10 dishes to make on Thanksgiving and you can just throw these in and forget about them until it’s time to serve dinner.
There is also a little secret that I didn’t know about to making the creamiest mashed potatoes ever until my husband made me my birthday mashed potatoes one year. He uses a potato ricer which requires an additional step but will make the creamiest, softest mashed potatoes ever. If you want to take the extra step you will be amazed by what it does. I love to use it on special occasions like the holidays or my birthday! Here’s the one I recommend. I like the commercial version because it gets the job done faster!
How to Make Slow Cooker Garlic Mashed Potatoes
Step 1. Combine potatoes, chicken broth, minced garlic, butter, and salt in a slow cooker.
Step 2. Stir together, then cover and cook on high for 3–4 hours, until potatoes are tender and fluffy-looking.
Step 3. Mash with a potato masher or put them through a potato ricer, for super smooth potatoes.
Step 4. Add milk and butter to taste. Mash again to combine everything. Add additional salt to taste. (Add cream cheese, shredded cheese or sour cream at this step.)
Step 5. Top with scallions or chives.

Gluten-Free- I make all my recipes gluten-free since my husband has celiac disease, which means he is allergic to gluten. This recipe naturally is gluten free. Just make sure that all the toppings you add are also gluten free!

- 5 pounds Russet potatoes peeled and cut into small chunks
- 1 cup low sodium chicken broth
- 8 tablespoons unsalted butter cut into pats
- 4 tablespoons garlic minced, 5 cloves
- 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
- Heavy cream or milk to taste I use 1/4 cup heavy cream
- Chives for garnish
