Homemade Treat Time

We have been cooking up a storm in our house. Every morning my kids want to make a new treat and I needed a new easy one that my young, 4 and 6 year old, kids could help make. I was looking for a recipe that is easy, quick and already had all the ingredients in my pantry. That’s when I remembered the Best No Bake Peanut Butter Bars!

I remembered that we use to make peanut butter bars like these when I was a kid. We only had Honey Nut Cheerios when we made ours but you could use any version of Cheerios. The best part is Cheerios are naturally gluten free so you don’t have to substitute anything. I always love when I can let me kids help cook so they can start to learn important skills in the kitchen! This recipe for No Bake Peanut Butter Bars is the perfect place to start with all your young chefs! Next stop Food Network.

No Bake Oatmeal Energy Balls

no bake oatmeal energy balls

This is the easiest recipe you will ever make! Ok, so that might not be true but I swear No Bake Oatmeal Energy Balls are the easiest and tastiest recipe I have ever made. If you have ever found an easier recipe please send it to me so I can make it! This original recipe came from my Mom who would let us make these with her in the kitchen. My Mom’s recipe had wheat germ on them, don’t ask I’m not really sure what that is, but they have morphed into these tasty treats that are now a staple in my fridge.

There are so many reasons why these are the best! As the name says you don’t need to bake these sweet treats. All you have to do is mix 4 ingredients in a bowl and you have a quick protein packed breakfast, on the go snack or afternoon treat to tide you over to dinner. I just might eat one every day, just sayin! Energy balls are a quick and healthy snack you can feel good about eating. These are gluten free but you can use any oatmeal you have, quick cooking oats or old fashioned. Another great part is that you probably have all the ingredients in your pantry right now.

Easy Substitutes for No Bake Oatmeal Energy Balls

Gluten Free– We use Bob’s Red Mill Gluten Free Oats to make our oatmeal Energy Balls gluten free. They are produced in a dedicated gluten free facility. While oats are actually gluten free there is no way to avoid cross contamination with wheat while they are growing or being processed in a typical setting. My husband has celiac disease so we keep our No Bake Oatmeal Energy Balls gluten free so he can eat them too.

Peanut Allergy– Swap out Peanut Butter for whatever Nut Butter you like. You can use Sun Butter to make a switch and they will still taste scrumptious.

Cooking with Kids- No Bake Oatmeal Energy Balls

These are a super fun and easy treat to make with kids because as I said before they only require mixing! This is a great way to introduce your kids to cooking just like my Mom did. If you want you can add whatever mix ins that your kids might like.

Mix It Up with Mix-Ins

This recipe is the basic recipe I use when I make my energy balls but the options are really endless for what you can mix in to make these just how you like them.

– Raisins

– White Chocolate Chips

– Mini MMs

– Flax Seeds

– Hemp Seeds

– Coconut Flakes
