hey there!
Hi! I’m Matt Fay — the creator and recipe developer behind Crockpots and Flipflops. I make this site to share with you easy, accessible slow cooker recipes designed for busy lives. My goal is to help you find fresh ways to use your crock pot to prepare delicious, nutritious meals that fit real life.

Now Cooking with Matt
Hi, I’m Matt.
Two years ago, in mid-2024, I took over Crock Pots and Flip Flops and gave the site a full redesign — new look, new energy, and a new chapter. While many of the original recipes were created by Allison (and remain part of the heart of this site), today this kitchen reflects my voice, my cooking style, and where I’m taking things next.
Crock Pots and Flip Flops has always been about approachable, real-life food. That part isn’t changing.
But the direction is evolving.
What You’ll Find Here
You’ll find:
- Slow cooker recipes with more intentional ingredient choices
- High-protein soups, stews, and chilis
- Family-friendly meals that don’t feel like “diet food”
- Recipes that can easily be adjusted for more or less servings.
Some posts are legacy recipes (from Allison). Others are entirely mine. Over time, more and more of what you see will reflect my voice, my testing, and my direction for the brand.
Where Crock Pots and Flip Flops Started
Crockpots and Flipflops started as a place for comforting, approachable slow cooker meals and that hasn’t changed — but the focus has evolved.
Where It’s Going Now
My goal is to move Crock Pots and Flip Flops toward:
- Nutritious, easy-to-make meals.
- High-protein options that support an active lifestyle
- Meal-prep friendly recipes
- A variety of recipes to keep it interesting
- I want to share recipes that I would feel good eating and serving to my daughter
My Cooking Philosophy
I believe cooking should be simple, satisfying, and practical. Here you’ll find recipes that use intentional ingredients, offer a variety of nutritious options, and take advantage of the slow cooker so you spend less time prepping and more time living. From high-protein soups and stews to family-friendly classics and occasional indulgences, every recipe is created with real food for real life in mind.
I enjoy competing in master’s level powerlifting meets, and I train hard throughout the week for that. I might be among the smaller and older powerlifters out there, but no matter.
Training like this means food matters — not just for flavor, but for recovery, strength, and performance.
That said - I'm not planning on making all fitness recipes. I train because I like to eat! While I will keep the ingredients mostly nutritious, I will still give you all some fun foods.

Real food. Real life.
When I was a kid, my mom used to use her Crock Pot for one thing and one thing only - STEW. I had so much beef stew that I became scarred (sorry, mom!). I didn't use a crock pot for 35 years after that.
These days, I understand that the slow cooker can be used to create oh-so-much-more in the kitchen. It is a timesaver and a great tool to make real, fun, and delicious meals. Let's do that together.

The Family Food Reset: Simple Steps to Clean Eating with Kids
Are you a busy parent struggling to feed your family healthy food? I know the struggle all too well and that's why I wrote The Family Food Reset: Simple Steps to Clean Eating with Kids. This is not a Crock Pot book - it is guidance on how to help kids grow into healthy eating.
Today, I oversee the content, recipe development, design, and direction of the brand.
And yes — flip flops are still welcome in the kitchen.
I hope you enjoy my recipes and my website
