Thanksgiving Crock Pot Side Dish
Who doesn’t love to find recipes for Thanksgiving that don’t take up the oven? This dish is made in the slow cooker and tastes great! You can even travel with it. I use my Crock Cook and Carry for any recipe like this and bring it along in the car since it’s always hard to find room in the oven on Thanksgiving. I usually leave the marshmallows for the end and pop them in the oven a few minutes before dinner is served.
Did you know you can put a Crock-Pot insert in the oven up to 400 degrees? Here’s the link in case you don’t believe me 🙂 I love taking a few minutes and using the oven as a finishing touch to add a little crispiness to the dish.
GLUTEN FREE SIDE DISH
This recipe is naturally gluten-free! All the ingredients in it are gluten-free. As always I make all of my recipes gluten-free because my husband has celiac disease which means he is allergic to gluten. You know all my recipes will be tested and served with only gluten-free products.

What size crock pot did you use?
Allison Treadwell says
Hi Dee! I used a 7qt crockpot. Hope you enjoy the recipe!
Melissa says
Hello,
This recipe sounds great. I am bringing this to a work potluck, do you think I could double the recipe? Or would that be too much for one crock pot to handle?
I was thinking about making the sweet potatoes the same as usual, then transferring to the crockpot to keep warm during transport, and topping with the marshmallows right before I leave the house, and using your trick of throwing the crock pot insert into the oven to toast the marshmallows
Allison Treadwell says
Hi Melissa! What size crockpot do you have? If you have a 7qt I think that will work just fine! If you aren’t even cooking them in the crockpot then you should be totally fine. Hope you enjoy it!
Gail Lewis says
Can you use canned?
Allison Treadwell says
Hi Gail! Of course! Even easier 🙂
Britt says
In the video it shows water but it’s not in the recipe above how much water do you put it?
Nettie Moore says
Hi Allison,
I am making your recipe for Thanksgiving! My daughter who is a newlywed is hosting this year and she requested that I make this! YUM! I have the Crock and Carry that I will use as well since she lives 4 hours away. Plus, it’s gluten-free for my daughter in law who has celiac’s.
I have a question, I have the canned sweet potatoes, can I use those? Or do I have to use fresh sweet potatoes for this recipe? Would the spices be the same? Would I need cornstarch?
Thank you for your help!
Nettie
Allison Treadwell says
Hi Nettie! Yes you can use canned sweet potatoes but you will only need to follow the recipe from when the sweet potatoes are cooked since canned sweet potatoes are already soft. The spices would be the same and you can skip the cornstarch. Hope you love the recipe!
