Slow Cooker Queso Chicken Tacos

Make dinner easy with these tasty Slow Cooker Queso Chicken Tacos! If you love queso cheese as much as me then you will love these cheesy, gluten free tacos.

Has anyone else noticed that there are tons of new restaurant sauces available at the grocery stores? I’m a sucker for trying new sauces and love having all these fun new ones to try out in the Crock Pot.

I have been going on a recipe making marathon trying them all out. If you haven’t tried Garlic Parmesan Chicken Pasta, one of my most popular recipes, using Buffalo Wild Wings Garlic Parmesan Sauce you need to give it a try next!

Disclaimer- Some links below are Amazon affiliate links, meaning at no extra cost to you, I will earn a commission if you click through and make a purchase.

These cheesy tacos use the On The Border Queso Sauce. My sister actually worked at On The Border when we grew up so this sauce holds a special place in my heart. I could eat On The Border Queso as my meal with their thin and crispy tortilla chips. And don’t even get me started on their fajitas and tortillas!

Slow Cooker Queso Chicken Tacos

On The Border Queso Sauce

The On The Border Queso has a lot of flavor in it. Much more than typical queso. I’m not sure if it’s the real cheese or the bell peppers they include but just be aware that there are lots of spices already in it. Also, I picked up the medium flavor queso and it was a little spicy for my kids. If you are making this for kids you may want to get the mild flavor.

Slow Cooker Queso Chicken Tacos

Slow Cooker Queso Chicken Tacos

Since the On The Border Queso has so much flavor I didn’t want to add any taco seasoning to the recipe. I kept it simple with ingredients I had in my pantry and it turned out great.

All of my recipes are gluten free because my husband has celiac disease, which means you are allergic to gluten. I always use Pacific Foods Cream of Chicken Soup because it is made without gluten.

Slow Cooker Queso Chicken Tacos
  • Pacific Foods Cream of Chicken Soup
  • Salsa
  • Chicken Breasts
  • Green Chiles
  • On The Border Queso sauce

I always have these taco shells in the pantry too. I love a good hard-shelled taco to give the creamy chicken a little crunch. Top with your favorite toppings like shredded lettuce, tomatoes, and jalapeños.

How to Make Slow Cooker Queso Chicken Tacos

  1. Add chicken, salsa, cream of chicken soup, and green chilis to the slow cooker.
  2. Stir ingredients and cover the chicken with sauce.
  3. Cook on low for 4 hours or high for 2 1/2 hours.
  4. Remove liquid and set aside.
  5. Shred Chicken.
  6. Add 3/4 cup of On The Border Queso Sauce and reserved liquid until creaminess level desired.
  7. Stir and serve!

How to Store and Reheat Queso Chicken Tacos

Slow cooker queso tacos are best served immediately after they’re cooked. However, if you have leftovers, store them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to four days.

To reheat, simply place the tacos on a baking sheet and warm them in a 350°F oven until heated through. Alternatively, you could reheat them in the microwave. If the queso has thickened too much, add a splash of milk or water to thin it out before reheating.

FAQs for Queso Chicken Tacos Crockpot

What are some tips for making the perfect slow cooker queso tacos?

To make sure your queso tacos are extra flavorful and cheesy, be sure to use a good quality cheese. I recommend using sharp cheddar for its bold flavor. In terms of spices, I suggest adding in a little chili powder and cumin to give the queso an extra kick.

What are some other toppings that would be delicious on slow cooker queso tacos?

There are so many delicious toppings that would be great on slow cooker queso tacos! Some of my favorites include diced tomatoes, green onions, sour cream, and avocado.

How do you make sure the tortillas don’t get soggy?

One way to prevent soggy tortillas is by using hard-shell tacos. However, if you prefer soft tortillas, I suggest warming them up in the oven or microwave before adding the queso filling.

Crockpot queso chicken tacos are the perfect appetizer or main course for any party! They’re easy to make and can be customized with your favorite toppings. Plus, they’re a great way to use up leftover queso. If you have any questions about how to make chicken queso tacos, be sure to check out the FAQs section.

Crockpot Cracker Barrel Hash Brown Casserole

This cheesy and delicious classic gets an upgrade with a meaty addition of ham! Crockpot Cracker Barrel Hash Brown Casserole is a simple, gluten free dish that will wow everyone.

If you have ever been to Cracker Barrel then you know how incredible their hash brown casserole is. I could just eat that every time I go there and nothing else. The secret ingredient is sour cream and once I found that out I realized that I thought I could make a version at home in my Crock Pot.

I went home after breakfast one morning there and started planning it out and my husband said he thought it would be even better with meat in it. Since I love an all in one casserole I thought it would be great to add some ham to it. Another great casserole that is hearty all on its own is my Beefy Potato Casserole.

Crockpot Cracker Barrel Hash Brown Casserole

Crockpot Cracker Barrel Hash Brown Casserole

This dish is so versatile. You can serve it for dinner, breakfast or as a side dish. Hash browns are a magical veggie that transforms itself into whatever you want it to be. Hash browns are traditionally a breakfast item but the more I use them in dinner meals I realize they work anytime! Serve it alongside some eggs for a tasty breakfast or with green beans and chicken for a hearty dinner.

You don’t need very long to prep this dish. The hardest part is chopping the onion. I love to use my Cuisinart Food Processor for chopping onions. You absolutely don’t need to do this step in a food processor. I can’t ever seem to make them small enough when I chop them so I think it’s easier for me to just throw them in there. Everything else just gets poured in and mixed together!

Crockpot Cracker Barrel Hash Brown Casserole

Gluten Free

Since my husband has celiac disease, which means you are allergic to gluten, all of my recipes are made completely gluten free. I had to make a few substitutes to make sure this was gluten free. First is to always make sure to use gluten-free Cream of Chicken Soup. The only brand I have found gluten free is the Pacific Foods Cream of Chicken Soup. There is supposedly a gluten free version of the Great Value Cream of Chicken but I haven’t been able to find it at my local Walmart.

The other part that helps make this dish stay together is the flour. There is only 2 tablespoons but make sure to swap this for a gluten-free flour. I use the King Arthur Flour or the Cup for Cup in my recipes. Both of these taste just like real flour unlike a few that use beans as the main ingredient so I prefer these two options.

Ultimate Side Dish

If you are looking for a pot luck dish to bring to any event this dish is a must make. I can promise you that this dish will be the hit of the event and everyone will ask for the recipe. Everything they make at Cracker Barrel is a tried and tested comfort food that people love so you know its good. This popular recipe goes by so many names like funeral potatoes and cheesy potatoes. But no matter what the name is people love to gobble these up because they go with everything.

I love to make this dish for the holidays too. It’s easy to make in the crockpot instead of the oven and is indulgent. I don’t really love the name funeral potatoes especially for the holidays so I started calling them Crockpot Cracker Barrel Hash Brown Casserole. I mean that is a way better name, I mean who doesn’t love Cracker Barrel!

Crockpot Cracker Barrel Hash Brown Casserole

Meat or No Meat?

This dish is delicious without the meat so if you aren’t a fan of ham you can just skip it! Or if you have leftover bacon or another leftover meat you can throw that in instead.

How to Make Crockpot Cracker Barrel Hash Brown Casserole?

Step 1. Mix melted butter and flour together. Set aside.

Step 2. Add cream of chicken, onions, cheese, sour cream, hash browns and ham. Stir to combine.

Step 3. Pour butter mixture over ingredients and stir.

Step 4. Cook on high for 2-3 hours or low from 4 hours until casserole is bubbling at edges.

Step 5. Optional- Once finished cooking, place under broiler for 5 minutes.

Chick-fil-A Polynesian Chicken

Bring a little Chick-fil-A to your dinner table! Chick-fil-A Polynesian Chicken is made with delicious Chick-fil-A Polynesian Sauce, chicken, bell peppers, onions and ginger. Simple and finger lickin’ good gluten free food! This kid friendly dinner will quickly become a family favorite in your house.

Chick-fil-A Polynesian Chicken

What is Chick-fil-A Polynesian Sauce?

Chick-fil-A is a fast food restaurant that serves tasty chicken sandwiches and nuggets and Polynesian Sauce is their second most popular dipping sauce. Polynesian Sauce is a mix between Sweet and Sour and BBQ Sauce. It has a bold flavor that works perfectly for this all in one dinner. If you have never tried this sauce you are in store for flavor explosion! It’s like your favorite Sweet and Sour Sauce but better. My husband was blown away by how delicious it was in this meal.

If you happen to have a Chick-fil-A near you know how delectable all their dipping sauces are. I recently made another Chick-fil-A recipe using their equally yummy Chick-fil-A sauce in a casserole.

All the recipes I create are made gluten-free because my husband has celiac disease, which means he is allergic to gluten. I always get excited when I find a new sauce, like this Chick-fil-A Polynesian Sauce, that is gluten free. This is especially true for Asian sauces because a lot of the time they include soy sauce which has gluten in it.

Chick-fil-A Sauces Are Now In Store!!

Now you can have your Chick-fil-A fix even at home. You can now pick up Chick-fil-A’s Polynesian Sauce in local grocery stores, Walmart, Target and on Amazon!

I was shopping one day at Walmart and saw they had the Chick-fil-A Sauce and Chick-fil-A Polynesian Sauce in the condiment section so I had to pick them up and take them home immediately. As as bonus, 100% of the proceeds from the sauce sold in stores is used to give Chick-fil-A employees scholarships!

I am a BIG fan of Chick-fil-A!! I didn’t have a Chick-fil-A in Tucson when I was growing up so I was late to the Chick-fil-A game. However, we now have one 5 minutes from our house so I have made up for lost time. My kids especially love there food which gives me even more of a reason to go. We have even done a Chick-fil-A tour and I have a post about Chick-fil-A tips and tricks. I really mean it when I say I love Chick-fil-A.

Easy Week Night Dinner

Next step was coming up a new idea of how to serve this sauce instead of just dipping it in my nuggets and fries. This chicken dinner is so easy to whip up so it makes a simple dinner to toss into the slow cooker around lunch time and have it ready for dinner! You only need 5 ingredients to make this dinner and just a little chopping is required.

Whenever I make meals that include rice I always use my rice maker. This really makes dinner a breeze because I don’t have to make it when I get home. You can turn it on in the morning and set the timer for 5pm. I use the Zojirushi Rice Maker which is amazing. It has a timer (which I always use) and setting for brown or white rice which is helpful. Rice always comes out fluffy and just right!

This classic casserole has been around for generations. It is popular in the South but it has made it has way into every potluck and is always a winner. KIDS IN THE KITCHEN

The second time I made this my kids, who are 4 and 6 years old, actually helped me make this dinner. I just chopped everything up prior to having them help. They loved breaking the Doritos and layering all the food. Of course, they loved eating the dinner they made and were so proud of themselves. It was a fun way to get the kids in the kitchen and helping with dinner.

KING RANCH CASSEROLE WITH DORITOS- GLUTEN FREE

Casserole are one of my favorite dinners to make because they are easy to make on busy weeknight. We have baseball and swimming right now so I always need to have dinner prepped and ready to go for when we get home from all of our sports. This recipe was perfect because it took less than ten minutes to make and then I could turn it on and go about my day. Another favorite fix it and forget it casserole is my Beefy Potato Taco Casserole, I think the name speaks for itself.

I make all my recipes gluten free because my husband has celiac disease, which means you are allergic to gluten. This recipe can be made gluten free with two quick changes to the recipe. You just use Gluten Free Cream of Chicken Soup and Gluten Free Cream of Mushroom Soup. I always use Pacific Foods Soups because I know they are certified gluten free. And Doritos are naturally gluten-free(YAY!).

Move over Mississippi Pot Roast there’s a new roast in town! This Crock Pot Dill Pickle Roast is an easy 4 ingredient roast. This Dill Pickle Roast is filled with the flavors of ranch, gravy and of course PICKLES. The best part is that it is just as easy as the iconic Mississippi Pot Roast. All you do is pour everything in and cook for 8 hours!

I saw this delicious recipe on The Magical Slow Cooker and knew I had to try it and make it gluten free. Her recipes are amazing and I love following her for delicious Crock Pot recipes, you should too!

This secret ingredient of pickles adds the perfect balance of tangy to the rich flavors of gravy. The ranch adds all the seasonings so you can just salt and pepper to taste at the end. It doesn’t get much easier than that! The pickle juice helps to tenderize the meat making it so you don’t even need a knife.

Many people are turned off from the Mississippi Pot Roast because of the pepperoncinis used in the recipe. This pot roast recipe is perfect because it adds the similar vinegar balance to the recipe with no heat at all. Repeat…There is no spicy flavor to this recipe. Plus, the pickle flavor doesn’t come through as strong as you might imagine. It adds just the right amount to the recipe!

GLUTEN FREE POT ROAST

This recipe is gluten free. I make everything gluten free in our house because my husband has celiac disease, which is when you are allergic to gluten. Most of the Gravy Packets that are typically used in this recipe are made with wheat flour. Making this roast gluten free is an easy switch! You just use a gluten free gravy packet. I use the Gluten Free Pioneer Gravy packets for all my recipes.

MAKING IT LESS SALTY

Another common complaint about the Mississippi is that it is too salty. Since this roast also has a gravy packet and ranch packet (plus pickles) it can get salty as well. If you prefer less salt I recommend making your own Ranch Packet. The Ranch Packet does have lots of sodium in it and a quick fix is to make on your own ranch. Here’s the link to making your own ranch Homemade Ranch Packet.

LOW CARB

If you are following a low carb diet you can eat this with cauliflower mashed potatoes. This keeps the whole meal low carb. There are carbs in the gravy packet so it’s not Keto but still makes a pretty low carb meal.

BEST TYPE OF MEAT TO USE FOR POT ROAST

Chuck Roast or Blade Roast is always the best type of meat to use when making a pot roast. Basically find a label that has roast in the name and use that. A chuck roast is made to cook low and slow which makes it the perfect meat for this recipe. When it cooks on a low temperature it is braising the meat and breaking down the tough meat into tender meat. Do not use a round roast for long cooking times.

WHAT TO SERVE WITH CROCK POT DILL PICKLE POT ROAST

Crock Pot Dill Pickle Pot Roast

I can’t ever serve a roast without mashed potatoes. I usually have my other Crock Pot cooking these Garlic Mashed Potatoes making dinner easy. You can also buy these Bob Evan’s potatoes that you just microwave which is super easy too!

Another delicious side dish with any roast is carrots. If you want you could even add the to the Crock Pot and have them cook with the roast. Just make sure they are cut big so they don’t get too mushy by the end of cooking.

HOW TO MAKE CROCK POT DILL PICKLE POT ROAST

Crock Pot Dill Pickle Pot Roast

Step. 2. Sprinkle brown gravy packet, ranch packet and 1/2 cup pickle juice on top of roast.

Step 3. Add entire jar of pickles to Crock Pot.

4 Ingredient Slow Cooker Cranberry Chicken

Looking for the easiest Crock Pot recipe ever? Try this 4 Ingredient Slow Cooker Cranberry Chicken! This recipe has cranberry sauce, french dressing, and chicken that combine to make a sweet and tangy chicken dinner.

This is one of those truly easy dinners that Crock Pots are made for. You pour four ingredients into your Crock Pot and a few hours later you have dinner done which is always a win for me!

There is no prep before or after and the dish is fail-proof. The juicy chicken cooks in the sauce and makes a simple and flavorful dinner the whole family will enjoy. Another easy chicken recipe I love is this Garlic Parmesan Chicken Dinner where you use another salad dressing.

My six year son is actually the reason for this recipe because he loves cranberry sauce. So weird right? So he found a bag of frozen cranberries from Thanksgiving. I didn’t end up using them for Thanksgiving and asked me to cook them up. I happily obliged and made a big batch of cranberry sauce. But since it was February and not November I wasn’t sure what to make with it.

Gluten Free Chicken Dinner

Then I remembered a recipe my mom use to make with French Dressing and Lipton Onion Packet. Unfortunately, Lipton Onion Packets have gluten in them. Since all my recipes are gluten-free because my husband has celiac disease (which means you are allergic to gluten) I always use the Simply Organic French Onion Packet which is gluten free.

Thanksgiving Leftovers

If you do have extra cranberry sauce from Thanksgiving this dish is a perfect way to use up those leftovers. You can make a big batch of this and serve it over your leftover mashed potatoes! Boom…Two leftovers are used to make another delicious meal.

What to Serve with 4 Ingredient Slow Cooker Cranberry Chicken

I served this over mashed potatoes. Mashed potatoes were my go-to because I feel like cranberry sauce and mashed potatoes just go together. I think it’s a Thanksgiving thing. But you could serve this over rice or even on its own with green beans.

Also, I like to add more Cranberry Sauce on top of it once it’s finished! I really like Cranberry Sauce and I loved the extra punch of cranberry that it adds to the meal.

How to Make 4 Ingredient Slow Cooker Cranberry Chicken

Step 1. Add Chicken to Crock Pot.

Step 2. Pour 1/2 a bottle of French Dressing over the chicken.

Step 3. Pour 1/2 of cranberry sauce into Crock Pot.

Step 4. Sprinkle the french onion packet over the ingredients. Stir ingredients together.

Step 5. Cook on low for 4-5 hours or on high for 2-3 hours.

Crock Pot Parmesan Garlic Chicken and Potatoes

Crock Pot Parmesan Garlic Chicken and Potatoes

5 Ingredient Crock Pot Parmesan Garlic Chicken and Potatoes is an easy and delicious one pot dinner. The zesty Buffalo Wild Wings Garlic Parmesan Sauce pairs with the cheesy sauce to make a comforting and hearty meal.

I love when dinner can be prepped and ready to go with in five minutes. Whenever I have a busy day I always go for easy meals. Bonus is when they will be ready with no extra work at dinnertime. This meal really checks all the boxes since it’s quick to prep and all in one!

Buffalo Wild Wings Parmesan Garlic Sauce

Buffalo Wild Wings is very well know for their incredible sauces. When I saw this sauce I knew it was going to be a favorite of mine. The first thing I made with this Parmesan Garlic Sauce was this Chicken Pasta. It was epic and so amazing! But I knew there were going to be tons of other recipes I could make with it. This was my next delicious creation.

This sauce is awesome because it is gluten free and low carb. Most prepared sauces have gluten in them so I always have to be careful since my husband is gluten free. I always read the label because my husband has celiac disease which means you are allergic to gluten.

You can find it on Amazon or at Wal Mart or Costco. I did see that my grocery store also had a Garlic Parmesan Sauce in the salad dressing aisle. I’m sure you could easily swap that for this BDubs (Nickname for Buffalo Wild Wings) Sauce. But if you are gluten free always check the label to make sure it doesn’t have gluten. If you can’t find the sauce I found this recipe at The Spruce Eats, which is a copycat version of it.

Tender Slow Cooker Pot Roast

Tender Slow Cooker Pot Roast

This easy tender slow cooker pot roast will melt in your mouth! Pot Roast is one of the best things to make in your slow cooker since it is made to be cooked low and slow. This classic comfort food is a one pot wonder that has tender meat, potatoes and veggies for a great family meal. Make this gluten free slow cooker pot roast tonight for a delectable dinner!

If you have ever made my Mississippi Pot Roast you know how delicious and easy pot roast is in the crock pot. This recipe is a more classic version using simple and wholesome ingredients. All you need to do is a few minutes of prep in the morning and you will have a homemade and hearty meal on the table for dinnertime.

Disclaimer- Some links below are Amazon affiliate links, meaning at no extra cost to you, I will earn a commission if you click through and make a purchase.

What is Pot Roast?

Pot Roast is a tough cut of meat that is cooked low and slowly breaking down all the tough parts into fall apart meat. Tough meat usually have a lot of connective tissue which break down as it cooks releasing gelatin which adds flavor to everything it is cooking in.

Po Roast is usually any cut of beef roast, such as chuck roast, chuck shoulder, round roast, rump roast or a brisket. I don’t know why I always have the hardest time finding roast meat in my grocery store and I think it’s because there are so many names for a roast. Hopefully I covered them all!

The crucial step not matter what type of meat you use is to sear it or brown it, see below for instructions.

Add the veggies, I brown mine in the same pan but you can skip that step if you are short on time. Once you do that you cover it in beef broth and Worcestershire sauce to braise the meat your slow cooker. Hours later you will have dinner ready. It’s really that simple.

Tender Slow Cooker Pot Roast

How to Brown Tender Slow Cooker Pot Roast

One of the most important parts of tender Slow Cooker Pot Roast is browning the meat before it goes in the Crock Pot. This crucial step adds so much flavor. You need to generously salt and pepper the meat. It will seem like a lot of salt but it will be adding the salt to the entire dish so keep that in mind.

The most important thing is to let the meat brown. This means adding it to hot pan and not flipping it. Let it brown for 4-5 minutes on each side. When I started browning meat I would always flip it every 30 seconds which defeated the purpose and took even longer. Give the meat a nice char by leaving it alone for the 4-5 minutes.

What Vegetables to Use for Slow Cooker Pot Roast?

Root Vegetables work best for Pot Roast since they stand up best to cooking for hours.

Classic Mix

Potatoes- Peeled Yukon Gold or Russets cut into halves or quarters or Red Potatoes. I used both because I had both leftover! I always love red potatoes because I don’t have to peel them.

Carrots- Peeled and Cut into thick chunks so they stay together while cooking. Any color work but I usually just go with orange.

Onions- White or Sweet are best to compliment the flavors of pot roast.

More Ideas-

You can use Sweet Potatoes, Turnips, or Parsnips! As long as the vegatable is hearty and thick it will be taste great after cooking in this delicious sauce all day.

Tender Slow Cooker Pot Roast

How to Make Tender Slow Cooker Pot Roast-

Step 1. Add oil to pan and heat. Salt and Pepper meat and sear for 4-5 minutes on each side. Add to slow cooker.

(Optional Step) Step 2. Add onions to pan and add 2 Tablespoons red wine or balsamic vinegar to deglaze pan. Cook for 3-4 minutes. Pour juices and onions on top of meat.

Step 3. Add Potatoes and carrot chunks on top of and around the meat.

Step 4. Add Beef Broth and Worcestershire Sauce over meat to almost cover meat and vegetables.

Step 5. Cook on low for 8-10 hours or low 5-6 hours.

Step 6. Season with additional salt and pepper to taste.

How to Make Gravy-

Make a flavorful gravy to go with this your pot roast just follow these easy steps.

  • Separate fat from liquid. I use this handy measuring cup that is made for this. Or you can just use a large spoon to remove it off the top.
  • Make a cornstarch slurry using 1 tablespoon of cold water and 1 Tablespoon cornstarch and mix together.
  • Pour liquid from pot roast into sauce pan and heat until boiling. Add cornstarch slurry and turn to simmer. Allow to combine for 2-3 minutes or until gravy thickens.

Crock Pot Garlic Parmesan Chicken Pasta

This 5 Ingredient Crock Pot Garlic Parmesan Chicken Pasta is the perfect comfort food that the whole family will love. The Garlic Parmesan Sauce paired with the creamy cheesy sauce comes together to make the easiest and most epic pasta ever!

There are two things I love cheese and garlic. I can’t get enough of either and anytime there is an option to put them together I’m sold. This recipe marries the zesty garlic parmesan sauce with cream cheese and a little more parmesan to make a winning combination. This recipe is so amazing it even became a viral Tik Tok recipe!!

Many readers told me they were surprised by the spiciness of the sauce I wanted to make a note of it in the very beginning letting you know this sauce does have a little spice and kick to it! I didn’t think it was spicy but if you are sensitive to heat cut the sauce in half or add sour cream at the end to tone it down.

Slow Cooker Short Ribs with Red Wine

Slow Cooker Short Ribs with Red Wine

Slow Cooker Short Ribs with Red Wine are the perfect comfort food to cook in the Crock Pot! These short ribs cook all day in the slow cooker ending with fall off the bone meat filled with delicious flavor. These short ribs are a cozy and satisfying dish that will warm your soul and stomach.

Disclaimer- Some links below are Amazon affiliate links, meaning at no extra cost to you, I will earn a commission if you click through and make a purchase.

Slow Cooking Short Ribs

Beef short ribs are a prized cut for slow cooking. Cooking them slowly in the Crock Pot breaks down the tough connective tissues and the meat becomes tender making it fall of the bone delicious.

Short Ribs is my go to for special occasions or just a delectable dinner. I make them for birthdays, holidays. Every one always loves this recipe and I even have people ask me to make them when they are coming over. The quick sear and deglazing of the short ribs before you add them to the slow cooker adds so much incredible flavor. The flavorful combination of all the ingredients will make these your favorite go-to recipe!

Once they are finished cooking you make a quick gravy that is out of this world because of all the goodies it cooked in all day. Skip the restaurant and try these next time!

This recipe has a few more steps than normal but the end result of succulent meat is worth the extra effort. Once you get them in the slow cooker you don’t have to pay attention all day while they cook. I love recipes like this so I can make a fabulous fancy dinner with limited effort.

Slow Cooker Short Ribs with Red Wine

Bone In or Boneless Short Ribs

Either version will work for this recipe so use what you can find! Mine choice usually is determined by which is less expensive. There is so much flavor between the red wine, veggies and beef broth that the bone in doesn’t add that much more flavor. However, I do like to get the bone in for presentation since they look so show-stopping on top of big pile of my Creamy Garlic Mashed Potatoes.

How to Pick the Cooking Wine

Use full bodied red wine, like cabaret sauvignon or merlot. Even a shiraz will work! I’m a big fan of using a wine is the $7 category. I like to refer to this article by the New York Times whenever my inner self is deciding what kind of wine to use. She does a taste test using different price ranges of wines and proves that there isn’t a difference when using expensive or cheap wine. So save the good stuff and drink it with dinner instead of using it in dinner. I used this wine in this recipe.

How to Make Slow Cooker Short Ribs with Red Wine

Step 1. In a large skillet cook bacon over medium high heat until crisp. Put bacon in slow cooker.

Slow Cooker Short Ribs with Red Wine

Step 2. Salt and pepper the beef and add to the skillet and sear on each side for 5 minutes.(DO NOT TOUCH IT during 5 minutes) Transfer beef to the slow cooker.

Step 3. Add carrots and onions to the skillet and brown them in the skillet for 5 minutes. Stir in 2 Tablespoons of flour and pour 1 cup of wine. Deglaze pan, scraping skillet to get all the brown bits on the pan.

Step 4. Add veggies from skillet to slow cooker on top of beef. Top with mushrooms and garlic cloves.

Step 5. In a separate bowl, mix beef broth, tomato sauce, gluten free soy sauce, thyme and bay leaf. Pour into crockpot. Add 1 cup red wine to almost cover the beef.

Step 5. Cook on low for 8 hours or high for 5 hours.

Step 6. Strain liquid and fat. Reserve liquid to make gravy.

How to Make Gravy for Slow Cooker Short Ribs with Red Wine

If you want to make a gravy to go with this you will need to follow the steps below.

  • Strain liquid from meat and veggies using a fine mesh sieve. This will catch all the little bits.
  • Separate fat from liquid. I use this handy measuring cup that is made for this. Or you can just use a large spoon to remove it off the top.
  • Make a cornstarch slurry using 1 tablespoon of cold water and 1 Tablespoon cornstarch and mix together.
  • Pour liquid from short ribs into sauce pan and heat until boiling. Add cornstarch slurry and turn to simmer. Allow to combine for 2-3 minutes or until gravy thickens.

Food Allergies

Gluten-Free- I make all my recipes gluten-free since my husband has celiac disease, which means he is allergic to gluten. This recipe uses gluten free soy sauce. I love the flavor of Kikkoman Gluten Free Soy Sauce, you cannot tell a difference at all. Also, there is flour used in the recipe so you will need to swap for a gluten free flour. I use Cup for Cup gluten free flour. It has no weird aftertaste and doesn’t have a grainy texture.

Need a Slow Cooker? My favorite is this Crock Pot 6 quart Programmable Slow Cooker.
